British Pop artist Richard Hamilton made this screenprint from a photograph he took of a TV news report in May 1970.

The report was about a protest against the war in Vietnam at Kent State University, Ohio, during which the National Guard opened fire on the student demonstrators.

Kent State now enters the Herbert’s growing collection of art on themes of conflict, peace and reconciliation. The work will be displayed in the Peace and Reconciliation gallery, a permanent exhibition which tells the story of Coventry’s role in promoting peace from the Second World War to now.
