This drawing by Robert Austin shows a Spitfire undergoing maintenance in a hangar during the Second World War.
The fighter plane was produced between 1936 and 1948 and is famous for its action in the Battle of Britain. Among the sites for the plane’s manufacture were various secret locations in and around Salisbury. The drawing’s place at the Young Gallery now provides a link to this littleknown fact of local history.
