This depiction of a simple earthenware jug has been described as belonging equally to the ancient world and to the modern and replicates many pottery examples found in the British Museums collection.
Patrick Caulfield made the etching following cancer treatment that left him too weak to paint, though it is clear to see that his excellent skills as a draughtsman prevailed.
