The sculpture shows Macha, a figure in Irish mythology, who reputedly founded the first infirmary in the country in 300BC. The maquette represents a fine example of McWilliam’s mature style and will now join the large collection of works and associated items belonging to the artist at the FE McWilliam Gallery and Studio.
