Shuvinai Ashoona works combine myth-history, personal iconography, and very private symbolism.

This recent work moves in a new direction for the artist. It is quirky and engaging: the 'world view' of the title, in the usual figurative sense is here presented via a literal image of a globe, not unlike the earth we know, yet not a cartographic match for it either, seen from a vantage point that apparently foregrounds the North Pole, Arctic Sea and a set of imaginary or perhaps just reimaginged surrounding lands. The world shown is moreover surrounded by a host of satellites, that are not moons but versions of itself on a reduced scale, and of each other. This is a thought-provoking image of plurality. This acquisition was presented by the Art Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
