This work is typical of the American artist Kruger's output as it plays on clichés and cultural stereotypes to underscore and, eventually, undermine the persuasive power of representation.

The work examines how gender difference is reinforced through media presentation. In contrast to her images of chaste propriety in woman such as 'Untitled (Perfect), 1980' showing a woman in prayer, this work suggests the sense of recklessness, adventure, and destruction stereotypically associated with the male in our culture. Kruger cleverly disrupts the stereotype through her use of the neutral pronoun 'You' in You are the perfect crime. This work was presented by the Art Fund through Art Fund International.
