Alan Johnston has been a driving force in the development of Scottish contemporary art for the last four decades. His art is an observation of the environment, whether built or natural, and of the imprint of human activity on the landscape. These concepts are manifest in 'Orkney', which holds a particular resonance within the Pier Arts Centres recent building redevelopment. This work creates links between the Centres architecture and the works of art displayed therein to provide new readings of the permanent collection on display.
The artist. On long term loan to Pier Arts Centre since 2007.
