This ceramic wall installation in 15 sections adopts the scale of a grand painting.

The geometrical structure of the grooves that run across the work reference the patterns of light falling on the walls of Smith's studio, and connect the work intimately to the architectural space where it was created. From a distance its appearance is almost entirely metallic, and it is only on closer inspection that the polished clay surfaces reveal themselves. This work is representative of the increased ambition and widening interests shown by the current generation of practitioners and will eventually be shown in the new Contemporary Ceramics gallery at the V&A.
