He founded the Chelsea Arts Club along with his more famous friend and flatmate artist Frank Brangwyn and was elected Honorary member of the Ulster Arts Club in 1903. His work is popular for his depictions of sailors. The artist is also responsible for the well known version of the sailor’s head on Players cigarettes packaging.
