Acton during the English Civil War.
During the English Civil War Acton was the site a small garrrison defending the northern approaches to Nantwich. Chester was a Royalist garrison with Nantwich having been taken over by the Parliamentarians. Early in the war the first Royalists recruiting event was held at Acton which was later attacked by the Royalists under Lord Capel as he tried to find an area where he could settle to bombard Nantwich. During the Siege of Nantwich by Lord Byron Dorfold Hall and Acton were taken over by the Royalists and became the site of cannon platforms that threatened the town. And most significantly the battle to raise the siege of Nantwich was fought in fields in Henhull and Acton with St Mary's church Acton the site of the final surrender of the Royalists. The church still bears the scars of the fighting to this day.
