Life-sized figures cast from the artist’s own body and friends.
For the first major solo exhibition of Kira Freije, the artist will make a new body of work comprising around 20 life-size figures, staging emotionally charged scenes that evoke ambiguous narratives.
To create her figures, Freije casts her own hands and feet in aluminium, building her metal sculptures from the feet upwards by welding stainless steel strips together. For the faces, the artist uses casts from the people who are important in her life, as well as found materials.
