Ida Ekblad: World's Largest Metaphor

21 November 2026 - 1 April 2027

Vivid, sculptural paintings burst into three-dimensional, immersive contemporary artworks

Norwegian artist Ida Ekblad reimagines the boundaries between painting and sculpture in vivid, energetic works. Using recycled materials and motifs drawn from pop culture, folklore, and Expressionism, she builds richly layered oils that glow with depth and colour.

At The Hepworth Wakefield, her new series of oil paintings explore the sculptural qualities of paint, while large-scale glass, bronze, and cast iron sculptures extend the energy of her canvases into three dimensions. The exhibition offers a striking, immersive experience that captures Ekblad’s inventive and visually thrilling approach to contemporary art.
