Lewis Hammond’s haunting reflections on belonging and home, featuring paintings developed especially for The Hepworth.
Lewis Hammond’s atmospheric paintings reveal figures suspended between myth and lived experience, their presence charged with tension and tenderness. Using dark, earthy tones, he explores how dislocation shapes a sense of self and reflects on what defines home. Statuesque figures evoke both personal and universal narratives, blending contemporary life with mythological resonance.
Drawing on Caravaggio, Velázquez and Goya, the work balances drama and stillness, leaving a lasting impression. Each painting becomes a meditation on connection and absence, inviting reflection on the places and relationships that anchor us in a shifting world.
