Create your own Ex Libris book stamp using lino printing techniques.
Learn how to create your own your own unique Ex Libris book stamp in this day workshop, inspired by our 2026 exhibition, House of Stories: Tales from the Chatsworth Library.
Led by Sheffield-based artist Diane Cooper, you will design and learn how to create your own Ex Libris book stamp. An Ex Libris stamp or mark, traditionally placed inside the front cover of a book, identifies ownership and has long been used by readers, collectors and libraries to personalise and catalogue their collections. Designs can range from simple initials to detailed imagery.
During the workshop you will be guided through each stage of the process, developing a design, carving the lino and preparing your block for printing. You will receive an inking pad to take home, allowing you to continue stamping your books with your own personalised mark. All materials and instruction are provided. This workshop is suitable for beginners and for anyone interested in printmaking, book arts or personalising their collection with a traditional Ex Libris stamp.
