Drypoint Illustration Workshop

27 September 2026
10am to 4pm
£95

Inspired by our 2026 exhibition, House of Stories, learn how illustrators used line, texture and tone to bring stories to lif

Discover the art of book illustration through intaglio printmaking in this expert-led workshop.

Drawing inspiration from images found in the books on display in the House of Stories exhibition, you will be inspired by how early illustrators used line, texture and tone to bring stories to life.

In this full day workshop, you will design and create a drypoint print from start to finish. You’ll learn how to draw directly onto an acetate plate using a drypoint etching tool, how to apply and manipulate ink and how to use the etching press to produce your finished prints. You will also have the opportunity to experiment with Chine-collé to introduce colour and texture to your prints.

All reference images will be provided from the exhibition’s collection of historic book illustrations, but you may also transform one of your own drawing studies / photographs or printed images into a drypoint print - images should be no larger than A5.

No previous printmaking experience is needed and your tutor will guide you through each stage of the process.
