Exploring traditional arts including ceramics, calligraphy and plasterwork, through live demonstrations & panel discussions.

Meet an inspiring panel of contemporary artists as they discuss the lineage of the traditional arts including ceramics, calligraphy and plasterwork, techniques and materials, the creative process and how handcrafted art can resonate with others. The evening will include live demonstrations of plasterwork, tile decorating and Arabic calligraphy, opportunities to talk directly with the artists as they highlight artwork of special significance for them in Leighton House, an artist led panel discussion and screenings of the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo's ‘Hands on Time’ films which include guest artist Esraa Badawy, joining the evening in person.

About the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo

The Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo is an educational institution offering a two-year programme in the traditional arts, including courses in sacred geometry, observational drawing, colour harmony and decorative floral patterns, and specialised training in ceramics, glass and gypsum, metalwork and woodwork. Located in Fustat in Historic Cairo, the Jameel House in Cairo was launched in 2009 and is a collaboration between The King's Foundation, Community Jameel and the Cultural Development Fund of Egypt.

The Jameel House in Cairo accepts around 20 students each year. The programme is delivered by The King's Foundation School of Traditional Arts according to the same standards as courses at its London campus.
