Lincoln Museum houses an extensive archaeological collection, including artefacts from the Stone Age through to Roman, Viking and Mediaeval periods.
Located in the heart of the city, Lincoln Museum offers a unique insight into the history and archaeology of Lincolnshire, alongside an impressive art collection and a wealth of treasures at the Usher Gallery. Situated next to each other, the Museum was built in 2005 and the Usher Gallery opened in 1927 bequeathed to the city by James Ward Usher.
Archaeological finds
Lincoln Museum offers artefacts from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, Roman, Saxon, Viking and Mediaeval eras. The hauls are divided into categories such as Greek, Roman and British archaeology, alongside the numismatic collection of tokens and historic medals, and significant coins from the mediaeval Lincoln and Stamford mints.
Gallery
The Usher Gallery boasts a wide collection of decorative arts, ceramics, clocks, watches, silver and miniatures as well as artwork from esteemed artists like Turner, Lowry and Grayson Perry. A vibrant programme of temporary exhibitions weave in alongside the gallery’s permanent collections.
Refreshments
Muse Coffee bar provides a wide selection of teas and coffee as well as an assortment of cakes, light bites and savoury snacks.
