A journey through five centuries of food and drink in art.

From Arcimboldo’s 16th-century composite fantasies to present-day works and recreated table settings produced with relevant objects from the Bowes’s collection and replica food, this show will look at changing fashions in still life, market scenes, and pictures of feasting, pausing along the way to consider how the symbolism of food conveys meanings in paintings.

Key loans will be shown beside pictures objects and archive material from the museum’s collection.
