Explore the artistic dress and fashion of the Victorians, Pre-Raphaelites, and artists of the Arts & Crafts and Aestheticism movements.

May Morris, daughter of Jane and William Morris, grew up in a rich artistic environment, surrounded by beautiful things of her parent’s making – including their clothes. In this talk, Dr Robyne Calvert discusses Artistic Dress, and the style through which many Victorian artists expressed their affinity with creative communities.

In addition to the wonderful dresses, bodices, and jewellery on display in Dovecot’s exhibition, May Morris: Art & Life, Dr Calvert will explore the dress of the Pre-Raphaelites, artists of the Arts & Crafts and Aestheticism movements, and finally from Morris’ contemporaries in Scotland, notably those coming out of the Glasgow School of Art.

Tickets includes entry to exhibition May Morris: Art & Life on the day of the event until 6pm.
