Christmas at the Geffrye Museum
Visit and Talk | Geffrye Museum
Friday 9 December 2011 - 10:30 until 14:30
Located in attractive early 18th-century buildings that were originally almshouses, the Geffrye Museum is the only museum to specialise in the furniture and domestic interiors of the urban English middle classes. It displays span from around 1600 to the present day, forming a sequence of period rooms which capture the essence of English interior style and which at Christmas are decorated in authentic historic detail.
After coffee on arrival, our visit starts with a fascinating talk by the Deputy Director, in which the meanings behind our seasonal traditions and customs are explored and highlighted with reference to the museum's Christmas displays.
A Victorian-themed Christmas lunch follows, after which members are free to explore at leisure.
