Visit: Dutton Hall Gardens and Stonyhurst College
| Dutton Hall Gardens
Visit to the garden of Dutton Hall, a significant 17th century house in the Ribble Valley whose owners, Mr and Mrs Andrew Penny, have spent the last 20 years developing the garden. A formal garden to the front of the house is punctuated by an innovative knot garden, the pattern for which is based on the leaded windows in the house. The north garden is host to a rare and large collection of old fashioned roses, a newly created wild flower meadow and a variety of trees, all within an evolving landscape. There is also an orangery for those interested in pot plants.
A light lunch will be provided after a 90 minute tour of the garden. Please wear suitable footwear.
Then proceed to nearby Stonyhurst College where there will be the opportunity to see some of the treasures held in the archives, many dating back to pre-reformation times. There will also be a tour of the school buildings, finishing with tea and biscuits.
