Led by a member of our Curatorial Team, you’ll explore the paths Austen herself trod—routes that inspired her writing and scenes that appear in the pages of her novels.

Autumn held a special place in Austen’s imagination. In Persuasion, Anne Elliot savours 'the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges,' and Austen’s letters often recall walks taken despite cold weather and dirty lanes.

On your walk with us, you’ll hear about Austen's own walks, but also how she used both walking and the features of the landscape in her works to build characters and bring them together. We finish back at the Old Kitchen Tearoom, where you can warm up with soup and a hot drink.
