A hands-on session in which you will begin a new embroidery project, learn key decorative stitches and a brief history.
Join us for a one-day group embroidery workshop. A hands-on session in which you will begin a new embroidery, learn key decorative stitches and design ideas, and dive into a mini history of embroidery and its uses. Included is an embroidery kit (with threads, fabric, needles and instruction booklet in a project box) to get you started.
Hosted by embroiderer and editor of Family Tree magazine Helen Tovey, the day starts with a brief talk on the history of embroidery, particularly in the family context. Pick up your needle and learn a range of essential embroidery stitches through the morning. There will be a talk on the approach used to create new embroidery designs by artist James Tovey, who has been making the artwork for a series of cosmic inspired kits; this talk covers advice on composition and palette choices. This afternoon will include a talk on embroidery materials, stitch combinations and inspiration, with plenty of time for further sewing and guided creativity, working on your embroidery kit, which you will take away to continue with in your own time.
Good for beginners and keen stitchers alike.
Included in the day is an embroidery cushion kit, a pack lunch and all day teas and coffees.
