See The Rokeby Venus through a new lens, alongside diverse works by women and nonbinary artists
The Walker Art Gallery challenges norms and re-examines conventional art history interpretations by displaying Diego Velázquez’s only surviving nude The Rokeby Venus, painted between 1647 and 1651, alongside unexpected pieces by women and non-binary artists from the Walker’s collection. Among these are Ethel Walker’s 'The Spanish Gesture,' photographs by René Matic and Zanele Muholi, and Harriet Hosmer’s 'Puck.'
The painting was one of the first artworks that Art Fund helped the National Gallery in London acquire in 1906, and it is now on loan from them as part of their 200th anniversary celebrations, touring 12 major artworks to 12 museums and galleries throughout the UK.
