Merthyr artist Allaster Grant exhibits his location drawings.

Allaster, an ex-pupil of Cyfarthfa High school is an artist based in South Wales. He predominantly operates in Cardiff, however he also practices in London, Brecon and Europe’s wider context, analysing and recording the places that he encounters.

His work is expressionist. Whilst drawing, the presence of the space gives energy to the lines within his work and are coupled with a sense of architectural rationality.

The exhibition comprises a series of studies taken from South Wales, London, Liverpool, Spain and Italy. The studies are independent of one another; however they are all intrinsically related in their analysis of space, geometry and time.

The works challenge the perspectival paradigm, their ephemeral nature allow them to be interepreted and explored in order to surmise what the truths of the space might be.
