Over 160 pieces on loan from the British Museum explore the story of one of the most formidable empires the world has ever seen.

Artefacts reveal the wealth, power and organisation of the Empire, but also how the Romans viewed their provinces and people.

Other items chart the experiences of those living across their realm of power, from northern Britain to Egypt and the Middle East.

Highlights include sculpture from the villas of the Emperors Tiberius and Hadrian, coins from the famous Hoxne treasure, items of jewellery and preserved children's clothing from Roman Egypt.

After its run at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery the exhibition will go on to tour the UK.
