Visit: Marlborough College and the Merchant's House, Marlborough
| Marlborough College and Merchant's House
A special opportunity for a private tour of Marlborough College, working through 4,500 years of the very varied history of this fascinating Wiltshire site. This tour will deal with - though not necessarily in this order - the prehistoric and enigmatic Marlborough Mound, a large Norman Royal Castle and an early 18th-century stately home built by the 6th Duke of Somerset which became, in turn, the most fashionable coaching inn in England and currently, the nucleus of Marlborough College.
The afternoon visit will be a private tour of the 17th-century Merchant's
House, built by the silk merchant Thomas Bayly, following the Great Fire of
Marlborough in 1653 and is a fine example of a 17th-century middle-class house.
