The maplewood bowl rests on a collar over a baluster stem chased with acanthus fronds on tooled ground and a compressed knop. The circular foot is repousse with a band of cupids among foliage.
Provenance
Archibald Stewart, Lord Provost of Edinburgh. Stewart's great-niece married the brother of the Ist Earl of Galloway and the mazer passed into that family where it remained until 1954; Sotheby's 1954.
