Please help artist Bob and Roberta Smith celebrate that FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL. At a time when the value of art education (and creative experience) needs to be boldly restated and defended, we want to showcase the huge fund of knowledge, skills and experience in our town: it's already an art school.
Please help us make the loudest declaration we possibly can. In advance of the Folkestone Triennial, we need to raise £15,000 to cover the town’s streets and landmarks with Bob and Roberta Smith’s declaration that FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL.
We will work with local secondary schools to create their own declarations and run a workshop for public responses. Banners and signs will mark out the breadth of the art school; this isn’t a conventional art school and it isn’t a building, it’s all the buildings and homes where art is happening, all the creative skills of artists and practitioners, all the resources and spaces that together make Folkestone already an art school (and maybe other towns can be too).
We can only make this happen with your help! Support our campaign and receive exclusive rewards.
As part of Folkestone Triennial 2017, we have commissioned Bob and Roberta Smith to re-brand the town’s existing facilities as a comprehensive educational platform for young people to get an art school education without leaving home. An extensive programme will reveal the talents of resident artists, and engage a cohort of young people in making art and exhibiting in the Triennial. Follow our regular updates for more information on this exciting programme.
The Creative Foundation is an independent arts charity dedicated to enabling the regeneration of Folkestone through creative activity. Working with the people of Folkestone, our partners and other stakeholders, we will transform the town making it a better place to live, work, visit and study.
