More immersive spaces

Other galleries include an Enchanted Library where you can step through a wardrobe and visit the enchanted realm of Narnia or tumble down a rabbit hole and into Wonderland. Or, if you want to get really playful: pop into The Story Arcade, where you can immerse yourself in the world of video games.

Events and exhibitions

You can find the museum's programme of inspiring temporary exhibitions in The Treasure Chamber. Exhibition entry is usually included in the Galleries ticket. And, drop by the Woodshed Theatre to experience a range of live events, from storytelling and theatre to music and talks from authors.

Supporting the local community

The museum is particularly passionate about supporting young people in the local community. In Oxford, 26% of children live below the poverty line; meanwhile, reading for pleasure rates are down, according to a study by National Literacy Trust. The museum works with local community groups and schools, using stories to help improve early literacy and oracy, fuelling an independent motivation to read.

In 2025, The Story Museum was awarded The J.M. Barrie Award for Outstanding Contribution to Children’s Arts; The Museum was the winner of the Muddy Stilettos Best Family Attraction in 2025; it was a finalist for Art Fund Museum of the Year 2022.
