Keele University’s Raven Mason Collection showcases 200 years of Staffordshire ceramics, displayed in the historic setting of Keele Hall.

Preserving the Mason legacy

Lovingly assembled by brothers Ronald William and John Mason Raven, the collection reflects their passion for preserving the legacy of Mason ceramics. Since 1993, it has been housed at Keele University. Their sister, Kathleen Raven, added further pieces through generous bequests, helping to shape the collection into one of the University’s cultural treasures.

Iconic ceramics

The displays trace the development of Mason ceramics from the late 1700s onwards. Highlights include the iconic ironstone ware, created to be durable and affordable, as well as the famous octagonal jugs introduced in 1813 and still produced today. Together, the pieces illustrate both craftsmanship and innovation across two centuries of ceramic design.

Celebrating Staffordshire heritage

The collection is housed in historic Keele Hall, offering an atmospheric backdrop. Exhibitions, redisplays and community engagement ensure that this distinctive Staffordshire heritage remains accessible and celebrated.
