The archives hold local books, maps and newspapers, as well as photographs of the borough, oral histories and other audio materials.

The service holds archives from 1208, paintings, photographs and local history research collections, as well as the world-famous collection of Eadweard Muybridge, pioneer moving-image photographer, bequeathed to Kingston in 1904. This includes his zoopraxiscope and discs, collotype plates, over 2,000 lantern slides and a panorama of San Francisco.
