The leading contemporary art gallery in Belfast, Golden Thread Gallery uses the visual arts to explore the past, present and future.
Founded in 1998, the Golden Thread Gallery is housed in a restored heritage building in the centre of Belfast. Explore two floors of gallery spaces, a projection room, a community hub, and Northern Ireland's first visual art library and archive.
Contemporary art exhibitions
Experience an insightful context for the visual art of our time through the gallery's exhibition programme that promotes the work of contemporary Northern Irish artists – as well as leading artists from across the world.
Inspiring events and creative workshops
Recognised for its work engaging with recent history and helping to re-imagine the future, the Golden Thread Gallery hosts regular artists talks and interviews, as well as discussions between its curators. The learning programme here includes creative workshops – from paper marbling to how to create an artist's notebook.
Free activities for families
There are also weekly free art workshops for families, with materials and light refreshments supplied by the gallery. Check out the community hub where you'll find a free library and play area to keep kids entertained and inspired.
As a Museum of the Year 2025 finalist, Golden Thread Gallery is offering all Art Fund members a 50% discount off their special edition tote bags, as well as free entry into their weekly raffle, on presentation of their National Art Pass between 29 April and 26 June.
