The highlight of the paintings collection is the world's finest representation of the work of the celebrated 18th-century artist Joseph Wright of Derby, including portraits, landscapes, subjects from literature and scenes of industry and scientific equipment that represent this exciting period of pioneering discovery.
The museum's varied temporary exhibitions programme provides regularly changing shows.
