How Renoir captured friendship, romance and camaraderie.
The National Gallery presents a major exhibition exploring Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s lifelong exploration of human connection. From intimate studies of conversation and courtship to bustling multi-figure compositions, the show traces how Renoir captured the joys and fleeting moments of modern life with warmth, vitality and his signature handling of light.
Featuring over 50 works of art, including the UK debut of the iconic Bal au Moulin de la Galette (1876), the exhibition spans the artist’s most experimental and admired periods, from the mid-1860s to the mid-1880s. Paintings on loan from leading international collections illuminate Renoir’s evolving approach to Impressionism and his later, more sculptural compositions.
