Vennels: Perth’s Little Streets explores the narrow streets known that have shaped Perth for centuries.
Vennels: Perth’s Little Streets explores the narrow streets known as vennels, closes, alleys, and lanes that have shaped Perth for centuries. Drawing on archaeological discoveries from the city centre, the exhibition reveals what daily life was like for the people of medieval Perth and the crafts and trades which thrived here.
Tracing the distinctive network of vennels woven through the city, the exhibition shows how these streets formed the heart of the medieval town and how they continue to influence Perth’s character today.
Visitors are also invited to explore the city’s evolving streetscapes through five newly commissioned public artworks. Inspired by the city’s rich craft heritage, the exhibition highlights the stories and creative methods behind these works, one of which is already on display in Fleshers Vennel, with the others being gradually installed over the coming months.
Commissioned by Perth & Kinross Council’s Place Development team in collaboration with the UNESCO City of Craft and Folk Art designation, works by Neo Hanna, Ellietype & Lindsay Grime, Eleanor Wheeler, Heather Cumming, and Kate Robinson respond to the historic vennels within the vibrant setting of Perth city centre.
Vennels: Perth’s Little Streets was developed in collaboration with Perth UNESCO City of Craft and Folk Art.
