Examining the rise of British landscape art through over 40 oil paintings, watercolours and drawings.
Gainsborough’s House marks the 250th anniversary of John Constable’s birth with a major exhibition exploring the rise of British landscape painting through the work of John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough and JMW Turner. Featuring over 40 rarely seen oils, watercolours and drawings from private and public collections, the show situates these artists within their European and contemporary context, tracing the enduring influence of Suffolk’s landscapes on generations of painters.
Alongside these historic works, the exhibition includes pieces by their contemporaries, such as Alexander Cozens, Francis Towne and Thomas Girtin, as well as European forerunners like Antonio Joli and Claude-Joseph Vernet.
