An interactive exhibition and communal shrine installation exploring what it means to come of age during a climate crisis.
‘You Have Done This Before’ is a series of coming of age rituals that explore climate grief in young people. Co-developed through workshops with young people, this project allows for playful and supported exploration of profound themes; together we’ll develop songs, music, and weird and wonderful sculptures to connect them with their bodies, emotions, nature and each other.
Umulkhayr Mohamed and Radha Patel are DARCH Collective, a disabled Welsh collective formed by in March 2023, after 6 years of practising individually.
They ground themselves in care-centred practices for people of colour, and a politic of solidarity, liberation and ancestral honouring. Their shared practice explores rituals, shrine building, animism and relationships to land through sound work, conversations, storytelling, performance and sculptures.
Their work has been featured in the Bluecoat Liverpool, The National Museum of Wales, MOSTYN, g39, Videotage in Hong Kong, Made Gallery Denbigh, Peak Cymru, FfotoGallery, Arcade Campfa, and will be showing work at Liverpool Biennal 2025.
The exhibition has been made possible thanks to funding from the Unlimited UK and International Partner Awards for Disabled Artists. The Partner Awards offer 17 opportunities for disabled artists based in the UK. These awards offer a grand total of £628,000 to commission artists on a national and international scale.
These awards are made possible with the support from Arts Council England, Arts Council of Wales, British Council, and The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
