Earthly Paradise: Radical Living in the UK

19 June - 2 October 2027

Explore the people and places that have shaped art and activism across the UK over the last 200 years.

Highlighting individuals and communities who defied contemporary conventions, the exhibition looks at the homes they created to test new visions of society – from William Morris’s Red House and the modernist Charleston to Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage and the anarchist open house Dial House. This exhibition brings together works from the collections of William Morris Gallery and Blackwell – The Arts & Crafts house, alongside loans from Tate, the National Trust, the National Portrait Gallery and the Lee Miller Archive.

Developed through close collaboration with communities and artists with lived experience of alternative housing across the UK, the London iteration of the exhibition expands these themes through engagement with more than 120 young people from across the city, alongside a programme of talks, workshops and site visits for families and local community groups.

This exhibition is part of Going Places a major new programme of exhibitions touring across the UK.
