Documenting Polish life across decades through intimate photography
From 1978, Zofia Rydet set out to photograph every Polish household she could access, creating a monumental portrait of domestic life. Over nearly three decades, she captured interiors, still lifes, landscapes and people, returning to some homes years later to record change. Her approach was warm and personal, often unannounced, yet the resulting images reveal profound intimacy and humanity.
Sociological Record spans eras, regions and cultures, balancing epic scope with individual stories. Over 100 prints, alongside books and personal letters, showcase Rydet’s meticulous practice and her extraordinary contribution to 20th-century photography.
