See the works of art that brought Jane Austen's beloved novels to life.
Marking the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, this exhibition traces the visual evolution of her novels, from the earliest 19th-century editions to contemporary designs by Coralie Bickford-Smith. Original drawings, sketchbooks, printing blocks and complete works reveal how artists across generations have imagined beloved figures like Elizabeth Bennet, Fanny Price and Captain Wentworth.
Illustrating Austen offers a unique chance to see these illustrations as works of art in their own right, and to explore how changing times and audiences have reshaped the way we picture Austen’s world.
