An extraordinary exhibition that delves into the deep-rooted connections between the Indian Subcontinent and Wales.
Tigers and Dragons explores the intertwined histories of Wales and South Asia, tracing their roles within the British Empire and the lasting legacies of colonialism. Was Wales England’s first colony?
Bringing together historic fine art, colonial-era artefacts, contemporary installations and newly commissioned works from Wales, South Asia and its diasporas, this exhibition confronts urgent questions about empire, decolonisation and national identity, weaving together historical narratives with contemporary perspectives. It highlights Wales’ deep imperial entanglements, from Robert Clive’s looted treasures of Tipu Sultan at Powis Castle to Richard Glynn Vivian’s photographic records of 19th-century India.
