Classic furniture from one the of the finest 18th century cabinetmakers
Exploring the story of famous cabinetmaker Gillows of Lancaster and London. From humble beginnings making cabinets and coffins in Lancaster, the company grew to work at the height of British furniture design.
Experience a fresh vision of their work and the people involved, from the Gillow family and customers, to enslaved Africans in the Caribbean, young apprentices and generations of skilled makers in Lancaster.
The gallery aims to further knowledge of the history, design, production, distribution and use of Gillows' furniture. Highlights on display include the Lady's Workbox, Lady's Worktable, Worswick clock, Richard Gillow's personal book collection and Gillows' first trade card.

Opening times
The museum is open 11am - 4pm every Friday until 27 March 2026 for the winter season.
From 2 April - 15 November 2026 the museum will be open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The building is also open for our Dark History tours and lectures throughout the winter and for pre-booked school visits and pre-booked private tours.
