This exhibition gives us a glimpse into the landscapes of northern working class towns and cities and shines a light on everyday life in the pre-social media world of the 1970s and 1980s.

The British Culture Archive was established on Instagram (@britishculturearchive) to document, highlight, and preserve the changes in British culture and society through documentary photography.

The Peoples Archive, founded by the British Culture Archive in 2017, is a crowdsourced archive documenting everyday life in twentieth century Britain, its aim is to give a voice to the man in the street, to give a platform to a diverse spectrum of society and communities from across the UK.

This exhibition, features work by professional photographers as well as snapshots from people’s photo albums which show everyday life in the north.
