Working from a specially arranged real flower still life, you’ll create your own painting from observation while experimenting with expressive colour, soft edges and atmospheric brushwork.

Rather than simply copying what you see, you’ll be encouraged to let your imagination influence the colours, mood and details of your painting, transforming the flowers into something more personal and dreamlike.

The session will begin with a short introduction to Redon and his distinctive approach to floral still life, followed by a demonstration showing how to choose a composition, simplify the arrangement and begin building your painting.

You’ll then develop your own floral still life in oils with individual guidance, exploring how soft and defined edges can create depth and atmosphere.

You’ll leave with your own dreamlike floral still life in oils and a deeper understanding of how observation, colour and imagination can work together to create atmosphere.

Basic materials provided. This workshop is suitable for ages 16+ and is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience of oil painting.
