Cosprop women’s costumier delves into the hidden world of women’s underpinnings in this fascinating illustrated talk.

Join Cosprop women’s costumier Clara Drumez as she delves into the hidden world of women’s underpinnings in this fascinating illustrated talk.

Foundation garments form the hidden structure beneath clothing, creating the building blocks for some of the most iconic fashions of the 19th century. This talk will provide a snapshot of the history of underpinnings and discuss the intrinsic role that these items play in creating historically accurate designs.

Using costumes featured in the exhibition Costume Couture: Sixty Years of Cosprop as a reference, Clara will discuss the relationship between underpinnings and the finished costume. She will bust common myths and misconceptions around historical undergarments and share how costumiers balance historical accuracy with contemporary limitations.
