Unlock your creativity with this two day fiction writing workshop
A two-day workshop in story, setting, and the spark of imagination
This immersive workshop is an invitation to explore fiction writing in the rich cultural, artistic and literary history of Charleston. Over two days, Charlotte Cray will unfurl Charleston as a muse – wandering through rooms once filled with radical thought and artistic reinvention and finding new life in the shifting light of the garden.
Through a mix of guided exercises, playful prompts and supportive discussion, you’ll find space to begin, or deepen, your own creative practice. Whether you arrive with a story idea already forming or simply a feeling you want to follow, this workshop is designed to meet you wherever you are. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to write.
We’ll take time to look closely at objects, landscapes and the traces left behind by those who lived and worked at Charleston. We’ll unpick characters, interrogate point of view and try on different voices and shapes for telling a story.
Each day includes dedicated writing time, sharing (if you wish) and in-depth practical guidance from an experienced tutor – who will also offer insight into the world of publishing, for those curious about the next steps.
Expect:
A welcome tour of the house and gardens
Daily writing sessions and creative exercises
Group discussion and encouragement
A delicious lunch made with seasonal, local produce
A chance to read your work aloud (entirely optional)
Above all, this is a workshop grounded in curiosity and care. A gentle, expansive space to write, reflect and reconnect with your creative voice.
