Description:
This work was based on sketches made during visits to the Lake District going back to 1797. The depiction is not very topographically accurate and is suffused with the glowing light and colour imbibed on trips to Italy and Switzerland. John Ruskin enthused about this work, 'The blocks of stone which form the foreground of the Ulleswater [sic] are, I believe, the finest example in the world of the finished drawing of rocks which have been subjected to violent aqueous action.'
