Description:
Kate Downie has spent the last 20 years exploring an artistic vision for the extremes of both the Scottish urban/industrial landscape as well as the more isolated coastal places, as in this work which depicts a small house amongst rugged coastal hills. This work was made when the artist set up a studio in the remote peninsular of Old Slains. The artist describes the work as about 'the calligraphy of erosion' - the coastline is not a fixed entity but as fragile and open to change as our society and social identity.
