Description:
Richard Arkwright junior (1755-1843), was the son of Sir Richard Arkwright, the inventor and cotton manufacturer. The sitter also worked in the family cotton business and was an astute financier. He acted as banker to the gentry and aristocracy including Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. This portrait was a pendant to Wright's painting of his father, and originally hung in the family home at Willersley Castle.
